"Back on the Block" Series
Select illustrations. 2021-2022
In these illustrations, giant animals run through the streets of San Francisco, my home town. Some like the coyote and great blue heron, have returned . Others, including the elk and grizzly, have yet to return. Each plays a critical role in maintaining balance. With these creations I’m wishing them back.
The illustations were born out of frustration with the endless economic "rushes" that wash over this land, and the destruction that they bring. It was joyful and empowering to draw these huge, hyper-real animals reclaiming the land, representing forces greater than ourselves.
The first illustrations, coyote and great blue heron, are depicted on the corner in San Francisco where I grew up.
